Location:  Glasgow, KY         Reports To: Plant Manager          FLSA Status: Non-Exempt         Direct Reports: 0

Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Plant Electrician is to provide guidance and oversee any electrical issues at the plant. The Plant Electrician must adhere to EHS policies, procedures, and regulations at all times. 

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.  
  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates for projects.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of company-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.  
  • Report needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operation condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and report any conditions that are not correctable to a supervisor immediately.
  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot plant instrumentation including mass flow meters, load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, single loop controllers, control valves, data logging equipment, etc.
  • Serve as plant lead resource for troubleshooting electrical controls, variable speed drives, PLC’s, HMI’s, and integrated control systems.
  • Work in conjunction with Corporate IT and machinery vendors to maintain and troubleshoot plant local area network and integrated machinery controls.
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date all plant PLC software including periodic backups of all plant PLC programs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 5-7 years’ experience in electrical field
  • Knowledge of local electrical codes
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and wiring
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required
  • Must provide own hand tools
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
